Detailed description

This volunteer role provides emotional support to people in Coventry who have been bereaved by suicide.


Group runs on the 2nd Tuesday of every month with a start time of 7pm. You are welcome to volunteer extra around this but being available during this time is a requirement of the volunteering role.


You must have unfortunately been bereaved by suicide to support this group as it is is vital to have peer to peer and lived experience of suicide loss.


Volunteers help create a compassionate, safe space where individuals can share their experiences and feelings, both in group settings and through one-to-one phone support.

Main Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Offer empathetic listening and emotional support to people bereaved by suicide.
  • Co-facilitate peer support group sessions alongside other volunteers or staff.
  • Provide one-to-one phone support to individuals who prefer remote contact.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries at all times.
  • Attend regular supervision, debrief, and training sessions.
  • Signpost to relevant local or national support services when appropriate.

  • Share your lived experience safety and supportively.
  • Emotional resilience and sensitivity when supporting those affected by trauma or loss.
  • Reliability, good communication, and teamwork.
  • Respect for confidentiality and diversity.

Volunteer Commitment:

Flexible, but you must be available when the group runs which is the 2nd Tuesday of every month 7pm start till 9pm (subject to holidays etc. Depending on group schedules and phone buddy availability — typically 2–4 hours per month.


Training and Support Provided:

Full training and ongoing supervision are provided. Volunteers are supported throughout their role by experienced staff and coordinators.
