Volunteer Role: OCD Support Group Volunteer

Purpose of the Volunteer Role:

This volunteer role supports the running of a peer-led OCD support group, helping to create a safe, inclusive, and understanding environment for people living with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Main Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Welcome attendees and help establish a calm, respectful atmosphere.
  • Support the group facilitator with session setup, participation, and closing.
  • Encourage open, empathetic conversation while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Signpost attendees to further information or support where appropriate.
  • Attend volunteer meetings or supervision sessions as required.

Volunteer Skills and Qualities:

  • Empathy, active listening, and non-judgmental communication.
  • Sensitivity to confidentiality and group boundaries.
  • Dependability and an interest in supporting people’s mental health and wellbeing.

Volunteer Commitment:

Approximately 3-4 hours per month (group sessions plus preparation and reflection time).

Training and Support Provided:

Volunteers receive induction, guidance, and ongoing support from the facilitator or coordinating organisation.
