Summary

Join Voluntary Action Coventry to litter-pick a busy industrial estate that borders a nature reserve. Help bring back community spirit during Volunteers' Week!

Detailed description

Alderman’s Green Industrial Estate – Litter Pick briefing

·       Venue address:

We will be clearing litter and rubbish from around Alderman’s Green Industrial Estate, Dutton Road, Coventry

·       Meeting point and start/end time:

5th June 2025

We will meet at the Boat Inn, 31 Shilton Lane, Coventry CV2 2AB.

Meeting time is 10:30am sharp. After introductions and a quick briefing, we will walk the short distance together to the entrance of the industrial estate. We aim to finish at 12:30pm.

·       Travel and parking

Bus number 8 to Walsgrave – get off at Ringwood Highway shops then walk for 10 minutes

Bus number 21 to Wood End – get off at St Chad’s church then walk for 15 minutes

If driving, cars may be left at the Boat Inn.

·       Clothing and kit

We will provide litter grabbers and bags, heavy duty gloves and hi-vis jackets. We will also have hand wipes and gel for cleaning and sanitising if needed. Please wear sturdy shoes (no open toed shoes or sandals) and whilst we don’t anticipate getting messy, clothes you don’t mind getting dirty are still a good idea. Long sleeves and covered legs are recommended to avoid scratches from hedging, fencing or litter items. Please dress for the weather conditions on the day.

·       Things to bring:

We recommend keeping your belongings to a minimum as you will be carrying them with you. Tea and coffee will be provided but you may wish to bring a cold drink, or bring cash to purchase food or drinks from the site snack vans or local shops.

·       Things you need to know:

There are no public toilet facilities locally.

During the litter pick, recordings and interviews will be taking place for a community podcast library and we will be taking photos for social media. You are welcome to participate in this but you do not have to! Please complete our consent form to agree or opt out that will be provided when you register.

We appreciate any level of involvement you’d like to give! You are welcome to stay and help for the whole session, or feel free to leave at any point that suits you.
