Support Chat Central events by helping with set up, refreshments, and welcoming attendees to create a positive experience.
Chat Central is a project run by Voluntary Action Coventry that helps people try new things, meet new people, and discover local groups and volunteering opportunities that match their interests.
We provide a warm welcome, a supportive environment, and plenty of opportunities for people to build confidence, make connections, and get involved in their community.
🕒 Hours: The role is flexible, with events taking place on different days and times throughout the month. You're welcome to volunteer whenever you're available, although we'd ask for a minimum commitment of one event per month.
📍 Location: Various locations across Coventry and the city centre, all accessible by public transport.
Main Role
As a Chat Central Event Assistant, you'll help events run smoothly by supporting with set up, refreshments, welcoming attendees, and practical tasks throughout the session.
🤝 What You'll Be Doing
- Helping set up and pack away event equipment, tables, chairs, signage, and activity materials.
- Supporting staff and volunteers with practical tasks during events.
- Preparing and serving tea, coffee, and refreshments.
- Welcoming attendees and helping them find their way around the venue.
- Keeping activity areas tidy, safe, and well-stocked.
- Helping to create a positive, inclusive, and welcoming environment.
- Occasionally supporting other Voluntary Action Coventry events throughout the year.

- Chat with attendees and help them feel welcome.

Essential
- Reliable team player who can follow instructions and work well with others.
- Positive, helpful, and willing to get involved.
- Friendly, approachable, and able to provide a welcoming experience for attendees.
- Able to carry out light practical tasks and use initiative when needed.
Desirable
- Experience supporting community events or helping with event set-up.
- Confidence engaging with new people and making attendees feel welcome.
- Ability to stay calm and solve problems during busy events.
- Awareness of safe manual handling practices.
