We are looking for volunteer coaches to work with young people aged 16-17, leading online one-to-one sessions from January to June 2027.

At The Access Project, we support young people from under-resourced backgrounds to overcome barriers to opportunity. In partnership with schools across the UK, we strive to give young people the best possible preparation for higher education and the world of work.

As a volunteer coach, you’ll play a vital role in putting this mission into practice. You’ll enable young people aged 16-17 to develop essential skills, setting them up for success at university and in their future career.

You’ll do this by delivering six one-to-one coaching sessions over the course of the programme, which runs from January to June. All sessions take place online and are scheduled flexibly, enabling you to volunteer from anywhere in the UK at a time that works for you.

As a coach, you will:

  • Help young people take their next steps with confidence, by strengthening their communication, organisation, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Draw on your own experience to share valuable insights and provide personalised guidance through your sessions.
  • Make a tangible impact on young people’s ability to raise their aspirations, access top universities, and achieve social mobility.

No previous coaching experience is needed - to support you, we provide:

  • A comprehensive online training session delivered live by our team - covering the programme structure, coaching techniques, and safeguarding best practice.
  • Dedicated session resources and guidance on how to use them.
  • Ongoing support from our central team throughout the programme
  • Opportunities to connect with our community of like-minded volunteers.

Keen to make a difference? Apply through our website to secure your place!

To be eligible to coach, you’ll need to:

  • Have completed an undergraduate degree or have 3+ years of professional experience
  • Be able to commit to delivering six coaching sessions per young person between January and June
  • Be willing to complete relevant training, provide two references, and undertake a DBS check (cost covered by The Access Project)
  • Be based in the UK for the duration of the programme
