Schoolreaders volunteers listen to children read individually every week to help children develop their reading skills and love books.

“The volunteers show that reading is important and their enthusiasm for books and reading shines through”(Schoolreaders Partner School Headteacher)

Schoolreaders volunteers are matched with a primary school local to them. They visit the school weekly for an hour or two (within the school day, term time only) and listen to children read individually, helping the children to develop their reading and comprehension skills, whilst encouraging them to talk about the books and develop a life long love of reading that will have a significant impact on their future life chances.

Our volunteers do not need any specific skills or prior experience, but they do need to be over 18, have good written and spoken English and be able to commit to their weekly sessions for at least a year (although appointments and holidays can be taken during this time).

Volunteers will need to have a DBS check but this is at not cost to the volunteer.
