Purpose of the Role
To help create a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for autistic individuals and their families attending our monthly support group. Volunteers provide practical assistance and a friendly, non-judgemental presence to help members feel comfortable and connected.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome and support attendees at group meetings.
- Help set up and tidy the venue before and after sessions.
- Provide a listening ear and offer informal support to group members.
- Encourage a positive, inclusive, and autism-friendly environment.
- Respect confidentiality and maintain appropriate boundaries.
- Report any safeguarding concerns in line with organisational policies.
- Promote the group's values of respect, equality, and inclusion.
Person Specification
Essential
- Friendly, approachable, and empathetic.
- Good listening and communication skills.
- Reliable and able to commit to regular attendance.
- Understanding of the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training.
Desirable
- Understanding of autism and neurodiversity.
- Experience of volunteering or supporting others.
- Lived experience of autism, either personally or through family members or friends.
Time Commitment
- Approximately 2–3 hours per month.
- The group meets once a month during term time only.
- Hours required 4.30pm-6.45pm
- There is no requirement to attend additional activities, although volunteers are welcome to get involved if they wish.
Training and Support
Volunteers will receive an induction, safeguarding guidance, and ongoing support from the group coordinator.
DBS and Safeguarding
A DBS check will be required for this role. Volunteers must follow all safeguarding policies and procedures and report any concerns promptly.

We are a small charity that supports families with children who have or are awaiting a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.
Our focus is to provide support for local children living with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families in the form of non-judgmental group sessions, both in-house and in public settings. Our service also extends to families who are awaiting assessment for their children.
Group Leaders have experience with ASD which enables them to work with the children with a superb level of understanding and patience.
Our team are also on hand to offer support and advice to parents/carers with empathy and knowledge gained through experience.
We welcome all members of the family including young carers.
We also run regular coffee mornings within local schools.
