We are looking for RE(FIX) Crew – Technical Support Volunteers to help support practical repair, device setup, digital access, and technical problem-solving wit

This role helps support people who may need assistance with devices, basic technical issues, digital confidence, or accessing technology in practical ways.

The role may involve helping prepare devices, supporting community tech sessions, troubleshooting basic issues, assisting with digital inclusion activities, and helping extend the life and usability of technology already in circulation.

This role is not about knowing everything. It is about being supportive, practical, patient, and willing to help people explore and learn.

What You’ll Do

  • Support basic device setup and troubleshooting
  • Help prepare and check devices before redistribution or use
  • Support community tech sessions, workshops, or drop-ins
  • Help people feel more confident using technology
  • Support basic digital access and navigation where appropriate
  • Assist with identifying simple technical faults or issues
  • Help extend the life and usability of devices already in circulation
  • Share observations and feedback with the wider team
  • Work alongside other RE(FIX) Crew members and volunteers

What You Won’t Do

  • Carry out repairs or electrical work beyond your confidence or competence
  • Claim professional qualifications you do not hold
  • Work on unsafe devices without appropriate guidance
  • Collect or use personal information without clarity or consent
  • Be expected to solve every technical problem independently
  • Work in isolation without communication with the wider team

Who You’ll Work With

  • RE(FIX) Crew volunteers
  • The wider RE(YOU)S team
  • Community members attending activities or sessions
  • Digital inclusion volunteers and workshop support volunteers
  • Community Engagement & Outreach Volunteers where relevant

What Might Help

You do not need formal qualifications for this role.

It may help if you:

  • Enjoy problem-solving
  • Are patient and supportive
  • Have an interest in technology or repair
  • Feel comfortable using computers, devices, or basic software
  • Enjoy helping people learn
  • Are practical and willing to learn alongside others
  • Can communicate clearly and respectfully

Experience with IT support, device setup, repair, digital support, coding, electronics, or troubleshooting may be helpful, but is not essential.

What You’ll Gain

  • Experience supporting community-based technical and digital projects
  • Opportunities to build practical technical and communication skills
  • Experience within circular economy and repair-focused initiatives
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and help shape developing activities
  • A supportive and collaborative environment
  • Opportunities to work alongside others with shared interests
  • References available following consistent involvement

Flexibility & Support

This is a flexible volunteer role and we recognise that people balance volunteering alongside work, study, health, caring responsibilities, and life.

We aim to create supportive volunteering opportunities where people feel welcomed, respected, and able to participate in ways that work for them.

If there is anything that would help support your participation or accessibility within the role, we are happy to have that conversation.
