We are looking for RE(FIX) Crew - Fabric Repair & Creative Reuse Volunteers to help support textile repair, sewing, creative reuse, and upcycling activities.
This role focuses on helping extend the life of clothing, fabrics, and textiles already in circulation through repair, practical skills, creativity, and shared learning.
The role may involve supporting simple repairs, visible mending, patching, alterations, fabric-based creative projects, and community workshops that encourage reuse rather than disposal.
This role is not about perfection or professional tailoring. It is about participation, creativity, practical support, and helping people feel more confident repairing and reusing items in accessible ways.
What You’ll Do
- Support simple fabric and clothing repairs
- Help extend the life of textiles already in circulation
- Support sewing, repair, and creative reuse workshops
- Help with patching, mending, alterations, or upcycling activities
- Encourage confidence and participation in repair and reuse
- Share practical skills and creative ideas where appropriate
- Help organise materials, fabrics, tools, or donated items
- Support welcoming and inclusive workshop environments
- Share observations and feedback with the wider team
- Work alongside other RE(FIX) Crew volunteers and community members
- Explore creative ways to extend, revitalise and reuse
What You Won’t Do
- Carry out repairs beyond your confidence or competence
- Claim professional qualifications you do not hold
- Be expected to “fix” every item
- Work in isolation.
- Use unsafe equipment or materials without guidance
Who You’ll Work With
- RE(FIX) Crew volunteers
- The wider RE(YOU)S team
- Workshop and event support volunteers
- Community members attending sessions and activities
- Community Engagement & Outreach Volunteers where relevant
What Might Help
You do not need formal qualifications for this role.
It may help if you:
- Enjoy sewing, mending, making, or creating
- Have an interest in repair, reuse, or upcycling
- Enjoy practical or creative activities
- Are patient and supportive
- Enjoy sharing knowledge or learning alongside others
- Feel comfortable working with fabrics, clothing, or textiles
- Enjoy community-focused environments
Skills or interests in sewing, visible mending, alterations, textiles, fashion, embroidery, crafting, costume, patchwork, upcycling, or creative reuse may be helpful, but are not essential.
What You’ll Gain
- Experience supporting repair and creative reuse activities
- Opportunities to build practical and creative skills
- Experience working within community-focused projects and workshops
- Opportunities to meet people and share knowledge
- Opportunities to contribute ideas and shape developing activities
- A supportive and collaborative environment
- References available following consistent involvement
Flexibility & Support
This is a flexible volunteer role, and we recognise that people balance volunteering alongside work, study, health, caring responsibilities, and life.
We aim to create supportive volunteering opportunities where people feel welcomed, respected, and able to participate in ways that work for them.
If there is anything that would help your participation or be accessible in the role we are happy to discuss this with you
