We are looking for a Participation & Insight Storyteller Volunteer to help RE(YOU)S better understand, interpret, and communicate the real-world participation

About The Role

We are looking for a Participation & Insight Storyteller Volunteer to help RE(YOU)S better understand, interpret, and communicate the real-world participation, experiences, relationships, and community activity connected to our projects and spaces.

This role focuses on helping translate participation, activity, information, and lived experience into meaningful understanding, human-centred insight, and real-world stories that help make community activity and systems more visible and understandable.

The role may involve exploring patterns, reflections, experiences, observations, qualitative insight, and participation data to help connect operational activity with human understanding and lived context.

This is not a communications, PR, or marketing role. It is a participation and insight role focused on helping bridge information, lived experience, systems, and human understanding.

The insights from this role may later support reporting, partnerships, funding conversations, operational learning, or communications activity, but the role itself focuses on interpretation, meaning-making, participation, and community understanding.

What You’ll Do

  • Help translate participation, activity, and information into meaningful human-centred understanding
  • Help identify meaningful themes, patterns, reflections, and experiences across RE(YOU)S activities
  • Support understanding around participation, engagement, relationships, and community activity
  • Help connect data, lived experience, and operational activity into accessible insight
  • Explore qualitative insight connected to workshops, events, projects, and participation
  • Help make participation and community activity more visible and understandable in human ways
  • Share reflections, observations, and insights back with the wider team
  • Support ethical and respectful approaches to participation and storytelling
  • Work alongside the wider RE(YOU)S team, volunteers, and projects where appropriate

What You Won’t Do

  • Be expected to create promotional or marketing content
  • Work separately from the wider team and projects
  • Use information or experiences without care, clarity, or respect
  • Be expected to represent RE(YOU)S independently

Who You’ll Work With

  • The wider RE(YOU)S team
  • Data Analyst Volunteers
  • Research & Insight Volunteers
  • Community Engagement & Outreach Volunteers
  • Workshop and project volunteers
  • Partners and stakeholders where appropriate
  • Communications volunteers where relevant

What Might Help

An interest in participation, systems thinking, storytelling, lived experience, community engagement, or human-centred understanding is important for this role.

Formal qualifications, relevant study, or being in the final year of a related course in areas such as social research, sociology, psychology, anthropology, sustainability, communications, journalism, community development, design, participation, or similar subjects may be beneficial.

We also value curiosity, empathy, reflective thinking, ethical awareness, and a willingness to learn alongside the role.

It may help if you:

  • Enjoy helping make complex information understandable
  • Are reflective and observant
  • Can identify meaningful patterns, themes, or experiences
  • Are interested in participation, systems, and human-centred approaches
  • Can communicate ideas clearly and accessibly
  • Enjoy connecting information to real-world context
  • Are comfortable exploring both qualitative and quantitative insight
  • Are interested in ethical and community-focused approaches to storytelling and participation

Experience or interest in research, participation work, reflective practice, storytelling, facilitation, systems thinking, community projects, lived experience approaches, or qualitative insight may be helpful.

What You’ll Gain

  • Experience supporting a growing community organisation
  • Opportunities to build analytical, reflective, and storytelling skills
  • Experience working with real-world participation and community insight
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and shape developing systems and projects
  • Experience within the circular economy and community-focused initiatives
  • A supportive and collaborative environment
  • References available following consistent involvement

Flexibility & Support

This is a flexible volunteer role, and we recognise that people balance volunteering alongside work, study, health, caring responsibilities, and life.

We aim to create supportive volunteering opportunities where people feel welcomed, respected, and able to participate in ways that work for them.

How To Apply

If you are interested in the role, we would love to hear from you.

Please apply through the platform or get in touch to arrange an informal discovery conversation where we can learn more about each other, answer questions, and explore whether the role feels like a good fit.
