The National Year of Reading are pleased to invite Volunteers/Managers to attend a completely free celebration event on Sat 6 Jun 2026 4pm at Coventry Cathedral

The National Year of Reading are pleased to invite volunteers and volunteer manager/coordinators to attend a completely free celebration event on Saturday 6 June, from 4.00–6.00pm, hosted in partnership with Coventry Cathedral.

The event will take place within the incredible setting of the Cathedral, which with its unique history and commitment to peace and reconciliation, which provides the perfect for bringing communities together around stories and reading. We will host people from across Coventry and Warwickshire and aim to celebrate the vital role of volunteers, including people who promote literacy, libraries and reading engagement, and highlight the power of stories to foster community connection.

We are pleased to have a short performance at the event from the Young Poet Laureate of Coventry, Diamond Kayode-Osunlana. Diamond is a writer whose work provokes deep thought, and bursts with rhythm. Hailing from Coventry, Diamond blends spoken word poetry and page poetry to explore community, society, and identity, on a personal level, and on a wider scale.

The gathering is free, and informal in nature with tea and cake served while guests are encouraged to chat and share stories with each other.

Please RSVP as soon as possible, and by 1st June at the latest, using the form here. You are welcome to bring one guest per person (please indicate if bringing a guest on RSVP, along with any dietary requirements).
