Our Good Neighbours Memory Lane groups provide people with dementia & their carers with a safe space to chat & make friends. Could you help them join in?
Good Neighbours Coventry runs two Memory Lane groups:
- Memory Lane Radford meets every Friday, 10.30am-12pm, at Lawrence Saunders Road Baptist Church CV6 1HH.
- Memory Lane Finham meets fortnightly Tuesdays, 10.30am-12pm, at Woodside Avenue Methodist Church CV3 6BE.
These groups are aimed at people with dementia and their carers. Varied activities are on offer, from darts and bowling to crafts and live music. Carers receive peer support at each session facilitated by trained volunteers.
This volunteer role is to help our dementia group worker to run the group. You would ensure everyone in the group is able to talk, facilitating conversation & stepping in to provide a listening ear where needed. You can assist people with the weekly quizzes & wordsearches, or be their dance partner in our musical slots. You could help serving refreshments too. If you'd like to run an activity yourself, that's an option.
This role requires excellent social skills and a compassionate listening ear.
The groups run weekly & fortnightly, but there is no obligation for a volunteer to attend every week. You can volunteer at one group or two. It may be possible to bring your child along by arrangement.
