Our clients' lives can be chaotic, lonely, and full of fear. Befrienders work closely with Debt Coaches, visiting to focus on emotional & spiritual wellbeing.
Being in debt is often linked to social isolation. Debt can mean having no disposable income to socialise with friends, carrying the stigma associated with being in debt and having low self-esteem. Clients' lives can be a little chaotic and full of fear regarding their situations.
Christians Against Poverty matches Christian volunteer befrienders to clients struggling to manage their money. The volunteer befrienders work closely with the qualified Debt Coaches, accompanying them on visits and focusing on the practical, spiritual & emotional needs of the client, such as: - Bringing the client into community - Identifying hobbies and possible points of social connection - Providing assistance with practical tasks - Sharing the gospel - Offering to take the client to church.
This role is faith-based, client facing and would suit someone with great relationship-building skills, an open and completely non-judgmental nature, together with a heart and resilience to serve.
A CAP befriender will volunteer ad hoc - you may go several weeks without a client to visit, and then see a client 4 times over 8 weeks.
