Tuesday group provides a friendly and sociable environment for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to feel comfortable, safe, relaxed and reduce isolation.

Tuesday afternoons- 12-4pm.

The CRMC Tuesday Group project volunteers support the Tuesday group activity sessions which provide a friendly and sociable environment for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants where they can feel comfortable, safe, relaxed and supported by engaging clients with games and activities including outings and workshops.

 

Main Activities

  • To establish a good relationship with the clients attending the group.
  • To assess their abilities and interests, as well as to understand their practical, physical & mental/emotional issues and needs.
  • To be able to listen and be a sounding board to their queries & their life challenges.
  • Where appropriate, to provide networking advice by referring them to suitable service providers, such as advisors & caseworkers at the CRMC & other agencies.
  • To facilitate & organise sessions on topics & hobbies of interest, such as healthy eating and cooking, carpentry, art work, interview skills, computer skills, etc.
  • Setting up/clearing of the group activity space including game tables, food and refreshments.
  • To organise outings; visiting a museum, narrow boat trip, going to the park, etc.
  • Teaching basic IT skills to group users.

Essential Attributes

  • Able bodied – moving tables, chairs and pool tables is essential as well as helping to pick up shopping runs (as the men get a free lunch)
  • A willingness to learn about the needs of asylum seekers, refugees & migrants.
  •  Understanding & ability to work with people of various backgrounds & nationalities.
  • Good communication skills including cross-cultural sensitivity and being proactive in engaging with others.
  • Commitment to the aims of the CRMC and the Tuesday Group.
